The assignment: To construct a fully bespoke canopy for the storage of recycling materials in the port of Bremen, in accordance with current environmental requirements and regulations.
Situation
At Weserport GmbH, located in the port of Bremen, recyclable materials are stored and transhipped for ALPHA Verwertung GmbH. Due to environmental policy and regulations, there was an obligation to completely cover the storage areas. The location also required a construction that could be precisely adapted to the existing layout and spatial situation of the port area.
Result / solution
For Weserport GmbH Kontent Structures Two fully custom-built WSI 300 type structures have been realised, each with a side height of 2.30 metres. The dimensions of the halls are precisely tailored to the situation on site: Hall 1 measures 18.00 by 19.40 metres, Halls 2 and 3 are 24.40 by 16.26 metres, Halls 11 and 12 are 22.80 by 11.40 metres, and Hall 13 measures 18.80 by 11.40 metres.
What is special about this project is that the structures are interconnected, with the uprights designed in such a way that they support the coupled halls together. In addition, not all halls are constructed identically: for some coupled halls, a deviating upright design has been deliberately chosen, suited to the specific load and situation of that hall.
The structures are elevated on concrete blocks and anchored to them, ensuring a sturdy and durable connection to the existing port infrastructure. This completely custom-made solution allowed Weserport GmbH to meet environmental requirements, while the storage and transhipment activities of ALPHA Verwertung GmbH could continue unhindered. The project clearly demonstrates the versatility and applicability of the WSI 300 structure, even in complex and highly location-specific situations.
